Unit 2 M3

The Intel i7 was tested in 2011 and the Mac was tested in 2009. The scores are very different. The Intel i7 has a better score, the Intel i7 has more RAM with it scoring 175 compared to the Macbook which scored 108. The CPU test shows that the Intel i7 has a higher score than the Mac which means that the Mac has a slower central processing unit meaning that programmes will open slower. The graphics score was higher on the Intel i7 with 2485 3D frames per second and the Mac having 70 3D frames per second. The scores for the hardware tests were similar with the Intel i7 scoring 18 and the Mac scoring 16 although the drive write speed of the Intel i7 was 143MB/s and the Mac had 40MB/s.

Unit 2 M1 Updated

Function
Windows XP
Mac OS
Machine and peripheral management
Windows is compatible with the majority of hardware out there, you can go to the shop and buy a keyboard and it will work.
Mac and windows are similar; they can both run the majority of hardware out there on the market.
Security
Windows has security functions such as password protection for different user accounts and firewall.
On the apple mac, a password is needed to share files. Mac also has the user account password.
Time machine is what apple uses to control its security, time machine is used to back up files and keep them safe. It allows people to restore the system or files from the recovery hard drive.
File management
Windows has a file manager and it shows a list of documents that are stored and this allows you to move the files around and store them in different places. You can choose how the files appear, they can be icons, in a list or have the details of the file shown.
Mac systems use finder which is similar to the windows system but uses appropriate icons to show you what is stored on the computer.
Mac uses cover flow to show you the documents you have in a folder. Cover flow is where you see a snapshot of the file so you can choose what file you want to open.
Device drivers
When buying programs that need device drivers on windows an installation programme is provided and you have to manually install it.
With Mac you cannot change things like graphics cards if the system is closed. All the drivers that you need are included in the operating system.
The ability to customise
Windows is easy to customise, you can change the background using the control panel where you can change the profile picture on the user accounts, the password and the appearance of your computer.
You can customise colours, size of text, volume.

Unlike windows on a mac it is harder to customise the computer; you can still change the background screen. You need to install additional software to customise most of the desktop.
The support for connectivity of portable media
Windows supports the majority of types of media, if it is connected by USB, headphones, CD’s, DVD’s and other computer peripherals.
Mac supports the same things as windows as long as the computer has the right connection.
Stability and reliability
The programmes on windows are installed onto the computer rather than the operating system.
Mac installs the programmes onto the operating system.
Ease of man

agement
Windows is one of the easiest operating systems to use. It is simple to use.
Windows has the taskbar at the bottom of the screen and you can choose which items appear on the taskbar. This makes it easier to access the applications that you use the most often.
Mac is also easy to use but it is newer.
Mack uses a something called The Dock and this is the bar or icons at the bottom of the screen, it shows you the applications that you have on the computer and you can choose which ones appear.
Associated utilities
Windows have more on offer.
Mac also has lots of applications on offer.
